Uses software including database management, electronic mail, word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, desktop publishing, and other similar software to enter, revise, sort and calculate, retrieve and finalize data. Proofreads material for grammatical and typographical correctness and conformity with instructions, guidelines and policies. Maintains subject matter files and records. Receives visitors and telephone calls to the office. Responds to routine and non-technical requests for information readily available from files. Receives incoming/outgoing mail and screens prior to distribution. Prepares and issues government travel requests and travel authorizations. Serves as Alternate Timekeeper for the Organization utilizing the automated Time and Attendance System. Uses Government credit card to procure supplies and equipment. As an incidental duty the incumbent may be required to operate a government-owned or leased vehicle. Therefore, a current/valid driver's license is required.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: (Refer to OPM Qualification Standards Handbook for additional qualification requirements and substitutions for education.) Applicants must meet the qualification requirements contained in the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standards Handbook.
The qualification requirement for a GS-5 position is 4 years of education above high school OR 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-4 grade level.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of that position and which is typically in or related to the position to be filled (refer to Statement of Duties). To be creditable, specialized experience must have been at least equivalent to the next lower grade level.
PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS: In addition to meeting experience or education requirements above, applicants for this position must show possession of Office Automation skills and must have typing proficiency of 40 words per minute. Applicants must meet these requirements by passing the appropriate performance test, presenting a certificate of proficiency from a school or other organization authorized to issue certificates by the Office of Personnel Management, or by self-certifying their proficiency.
EDUCATION: Successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is a prerequisite may be substituted for experience at grades GS-3 through GS-5. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

Incumbent must have a safe driving record within the three-year period immediately preceding submittal of GSA Form 3607 and be able to meet the safe driving requirements of the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
INDIAN PREFERENCE POLICY: Preference in filling vacancies is given to qualified Indian candidates in accordance with the Indian Preference Act of 1934 (Title 25, USC, Section 472).
