JOB DESCRIPTION:
Summary: Performs administrative and technical work in City Planning
Reports to: City Planner
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Plans, organizes, and coordinates comprehensive planning functions which include land use, transportation, zoning, and subdivision regulations.
2. Reviews development plans and zoning requests; prepares long and short range plans; develops project studies for land use, transportation, community facilities, and capital improvement planning.
3. In carrying out the functions of the Planner I position can serve as the staff liaison to the Planning Commission and represents the planning program at public meetings and conferences, with elected officials, agencies and various organizations.
4. Represents the Planning Department at Planning Commission meetings, public meetings and conferences, meetings of public and elected officials, agencies and various organizations.
5. Coordinates with professional City staff in planning studies and work done on plats and replats.
6. Compiles reports on activities required by state and federal laws.
7. Responds to inquiries from the public on planning and zoning related matters.
8. Performs other reasonably related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and other management as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Possess excellent writing and communication skills.
• Computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Experience with GIS, AutoCAD, preferred, but not required.
Education and Experience: Position requires a Bachelor’s degree in planning, geography or a related field, and two years of local government planning experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Physical Demands: The employee is frequently required to sit, talk and listen. The employee is occasionally required to walk; use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to ten pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quite in the office and moderate in the field.
