AIRPORT FIREFIGHTER JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary: Performs all aspects of firefighting.
Supervision Received: Airport Fire Chief
Supervision Exercised: None
Essential Job Functions:
1. Conducts all phases of firefighting to protect lives and property at Sloulin Field International Airport according to the rules and regulations set forth by the FAA under FAR Part 139.
2. Responsible for daily duties.
3. Participates in fire classes, fire practice, fire prevention, fire inspections and outside department activities.
4. Conducts all phases of an Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) unit. These duties include, but are not limited to, training, equipment/apparatus testing and upkeep, equipment, vehicle and building cleaning and upkeep, working scheduled shifts (as well as on call for non-scheduled shifts), wildlife management, and maintaining lines of communications with all governmental agencies involved, maintaining required documentation. The omission of the specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.
5. Inspects runways,/taxiways, lighting, braking action, grounds, buildings/hangars, fueling operations, and any other inspections as required by laws.
6. Operates mowers, loaders, snow removal equipment, and other equipment as requested/required.
7. Performs other reasonably related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and other management as required.

Minimum Qualifications: Ability to learn the operation of fire suppression and other emergency equipment. Ability to perform strenuous or peak physical effort during emergency, training or station maintenance activities for prolonged periods of time and under conditions of extreme heat, cold or smoke. Ability to act effectively in emergency and stressful situations. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the general public..

Necessary Special Requirement: Must be able to obtain FAA ARFF certification as required.
Equipment Used in Job Performance: Fire truck, mower, front end loader, snow blower, snow plow, fire truck and hand tools.
Physical Demands: Employee must be able to stand, walk, sit, talk and hear, use hand to finger, handle or feel; climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and reach with hands and arms. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
Work Environment: The employee is often required to work near moving mechanical parts and work in outdoor weather conditions, is subject to fumes or airborne particles, and occasionally works in high, precarious places, with toxic or caustic chemicals and with the risk of electrical shock. The noise level ranges from moderate to loud noise.
