Provides total nursing care to patients: administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques; observes and evaluates patient, and records conditions and reactions to drugs, treatments, and signifcant incidents;evaluates the outcome of patient care;and performs physical examinations and preventive health measures within prescribed guidelines and instructions of physician. Requires APRN license, DEA license, UPIN number, successful completion of an approved nurse practitioner program and have current approval by the joint Board of Medical Examiners and Board of Nursing to perform medical acts in the State of Montana. Prescribes or recommends medications or other forms of treatment such as physical therapy, inhalation therapy, or related therapeutic procedures. Arrange referrals, consultations, therapeutic services, and confers with other specialists on course of care and treatment. Collaborates with the medical staff in the development of protocols for care and in activities concerned with program planning and implementation. Maintains health records in accordance with program planning and implementation. Maintains health records in accordance with established policy and perform in compliance with the Privacy Act and Health Program standards. Where state law permits, may engage in independent practice. May direct nursing care through sursing staff. May aid physician during treatments and examination of patients. May refer patients to physician for consultation or to specialized heatlh resources for treatment.
