JOB DESCRIPTION

SCOPE OF POSITION:
Maintain in a clean and orderly condition, any designated building for the Standing Rock
Sioux Tribe, any shop or office space, including the restrooms. Must complete any
minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry and painting necessary in assigned areas,
including grounds keeping and snow removal. ADDITIONAL BUILDINGS OR SITES
THAT ALSO NEED TO BE MAINTAINED ARE: SITTING BULL MONUMENT, ONIYAPI
SD AND ND BUILDINGS, EPA BUILDING AND ND CHILD PROTECTION SERVICES
BUILDING WHICH ARE ADDITIONS TO THE 19 SITES CURRENTLY BEING
MAINTAINED.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs general cleaning operations in and near any designated areas, shop or office. Empty waste receptacles and sand urns into collection bins. Cleans floor areas by sweeping, dusting, damp mopping and buffing. Performs other janitorial duties such as:
 Dusting window sills and moldings
 Cleaning and disinfecting drinking fountains
 Washing soiled areas of partitions, doors and walls.
 Mop, strip and wax floor areas
 Moving and lifting of heavy furniture with appropriate lifting devices.
 Maintaining restrooms in a clean and orderly manner by:
1. Mopping floors, Vacuuming carpets, drapes, window sills and other surfaces.
2. Washing basins, doors, partitions and soiled areas on the walls.
3. Clean furniture mirrors, windows, venician blinds and similar items.
4. Cleans and disinfects fixtures.
5. Cleans and fills soap, paper and other dispensing equipment.
6. Prepares a list of janitorial supplies.
Performs other associated duties as assigned, including but not limited to the following:
Removing snow from walkways around buildings. May require use of skid steer
equipment.

 Application of deicer to driveways, sidewalks and other areas.
 General grounds keeping.
 Mowing and raking leaves.
 Trimming and pruning trees.
 Weed control using chemicals.
 Fix minor water and sewer problems
REPRESENTATIVE PRODUCTS, MATERIALS AND PROCESS:
Products: cleans floors, waxing, buffing & burnishing, carpet cleaning, carpet runners
and entry mats. Cleans walks, walls, fixtures, and furniture, exhibit cases and
chalkboards in meeting rooms. Responsible for cleaning all meeting and conference
rooms, tribal chambers and committee rooms along with all tribal offices.
Materials: Water, cleaners, herbicides, fertilizers, soaps, detergents, wax, polish
disinfectant, sweeping absorbents and compounds, deicer and special cleaning
solutions for glass and plastics.
Processes: Sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, shoveling, polishing, buffing, washing,
waxing, wiping and dusting.
REPRESENTATIVE MACHINES, EQUIPMENT, TOOLS AND GAGES USED:
Familiarity with industrial and household vacuum cleaners and electric or battery
powered sweeping, scrubbing, polishing and buffing machines. Lawn mowers(riding &
push), weed trimmers, power tools, snow blower and hand tools. EXPERIENCE lN
SKID STEER OPERATION PREFERRED, MUST BE ABLE TO HAUL EQUIPMENT
ON TRAILERS, HOOKING UP TRAILERS, MANUVERING OF TRAILERS. Additional
training will be provided. Use of equipment such as: brooms, mops snow shovels,
street brooms, pails, wringers sponges, dusters and mopping assembly.
TOLERANCES:
Working in extreme weather conditions, must be able to lift heavy furniture using
appropriate lifting devices up to 150 lbs. Shift work required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must posses a high school diploma or GED with one (1) year of
custodian/maintenance/housekeeping experience.
2. Must be physically able to perform maintenance duties.
3. Skid steer loader experience preferred. Additional training will be provided.
4. Must posses a valid driver's license.
5. Must pass a basic background check.
SUPERVISION:
Will work under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor.

No Tribal housing is available. Position is located at the Standing Rock Tribal Service
Center, Fort Yates, ND. The incumbent will work under the supervision of the
Custodian Maintenance Director.
