Description: Must be a U.S. Citizen. A Bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study (including 300 and 400 level courses) in Soil Conservation or a related agricultural or natural resource discipline such as agronomy, soil science, forestry, agricultural education, or agricultural engineering that includes at least 30 semester hours in a natural resource or agricultural field, including at least 12 semester hours in a combination of soils, and crops or plant science. Of the 12 semester hours, a minimum of 3 semester hours must have been in soils and 3 semester hours in crops or plant science. Note: Partial credit for courses can not be given.

Completion of a major field of study as determined by the university attended (including 300 and 400 level courses) in Soil Conservation or a related agricultural or natural resource, such as those listed in the answer choice above. The study must have included at least 30 semester hours in natural resource or agricultural fields, including at least 12 semester hours in a combination of soils and crops or plant science. Of the 12 semester hours, a minimum of 3 semester hours must have been in soils and 3 semester hours in crops or plant science.
Note:Partial credit for courses can not be given. In combination with the basic educational requirements, professional work experience that includes the application of techniques, principles, and methods from specialized fields such as agricultural and natural resources, soil science, forestry, agronomy, or other experience relevant to the GS-0457-series. Professional work experience is comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4 year course of study with a major in soil conservation or a related agricultural or natural resource discipline. Must have a valid drivers license and able to lift up to 45 pounds.
MAJOR DUTIES:
Provides technical assistance and guidance to individuals, small groups, and units of government in the development and implementation of conservation and natural resources plans, with emphasis on the whole farm and resource management system (RMS) level conservation plans. Works one-on-one with producers and with groups to promote and sell conservation practices to our customers. Assistance will be consistent with technical references and furnished to customers to aid in decisions on how to conserve, improve, and maintain their soil, water, air, plant, animal, and human resources. Applies a follow-up and maintenance program on lands of conservation district cooperators so that conservation and natural resources plans reflect current needs and objectives, determines progress, and provides assistance in implementing the plans. Makes new material available, and keeps cooperators informed of new opportunities for improved land use and treatment. Plus other duties as needed.
