Duties & Responsibilities: Provide policy analyst support on emerging habitat issues, such as marine management, shoreline management, salmon recovery and rebuilding, and water issue advocacy and development. Evaluate and provide written comment on issues, processes and rule-making as requested. Assist in the development and implementation of a tribal habitat agenda / strategy designed to address tribal issues and priorities related to habitat protection, restoration and management. Track salmon recovery plan implementation using the State of the Watershed Report. Track PSNERP to assure consistency with rebuilding. Coordinate tribal input, analysis and response to marine management processes, which includes spatial planning, marine protected areas, regulatory activities and alternate energy proposals. Organize and facilitate tribal meetings as necessary to enhance and maintain inter-tribal communication, strategy discussions, data sharing and generalized program processes: technical meetings; policy development meetings and topical sessions as necessary. Provide issue status reports to the NWIFC Environmental Policy Committee on a routine basis.
Qualifications: Bachelors degree in environmental science, public administration, legal or related field and eight years of pertinent work experience; OR Masters degree in environmental science, public administration, legal or related field and seven years of pertinent work experience. Ability to communicate clearly in written and oral form. A legal background in natural resource and treaty right issues is strongly desired. An understanding of anadromous fish biology and habitat needs is desirable.
